<p>Great past week &#8211; Very busy! We are almost finished with our new studio  look &#8211; Thanks to those of you who stayed late, painted &amp; cleaned for  me this past week. Your help has been taken a big load off!</p>
<p>Overbrook Parade Awesome success &#8211; THE DANCE SPOT won 1st place in the  Mini Float category! $20 Cash Prize! YEA! Way to go everyone!!!! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Dance Studio Classes have started today and will continue to enroll new  students until September 27th. So if you know of anyone who missed our  first class or sign up&#8217;s let them know there are still openings in our  classes. DANCE TEAMS ARE CLOSED &amp; FULL!!!</p>

<p>This saturday August 21st &#8211; SENIOR DANCE TEAM ONLY Car Wash! Lyndon  State Bank from 9am &#8211; 2pm // Please bring 2 Baked Goods with you for our  bake sale table. We are still in need of hoses &amp; nozles. SENIOR  DANCERS ARE PROUD TO WELCOME 2 NEW MEMBERS FROM MELVERN! YEA COURTNEY  &amp; LORI &#8211; We are so excited you have joined us for the fun &amp;  can&#8217;t wait till competition!</p>

<p>This saturday August 21st &#8211; We will be practicing from 3-4pm at the  studio. We may need to add the next two practices (28th of August )  &amp; the (4th of Sept) an extra hour of practice just to be ready for  competition. Let&#8217;s see how this saturday goes &#8211; I&#8217;m hoping well. Still  waiting for the uniforms should be here any day!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hey everyone! Great weekend!!! Summer Recital was amazing and the kids all did so wonderful despite the fact we had to dance in grass and avoid the pits in the ground. So proud of all the dancers &amp; cheerleaders! Really got me excited for competition which is just around the corner now!!!</p>
<p>Coming up this week!~ OVERBROOK PARADE event. Don&#8217;t forget we got practice on Wed. night to go over our WOWING THE CROWD routine to shoot for that cash prize award they are giving out to the best performing group for the parade on Friday night. We got some cute little outfits for the girls to wear and I&#8217;m working on the hoops for the parade dancers. The cheerleaders need to be at the practices since we are having them hop off the float to perform a section of their show cheer routine to help wow the crowd as well as our dancers from the Monday night classes &#8211; So be there 2marrow night &#8211; Wed. from 6-8pm to work on our routines! I&#8217;m hopeful the hoops will be done by then.</p>
<p>Thursday night parents will be working on the float so be sure to get those ideas for decorating ready by Thursday night and our teams practice again for the parade on Thursday 6-8pm.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ll be at the studio tonight for some painting fun! See ya around 6pm!!!</p>

<p>Thanks to everyone who came out for our Masters Hip Hop Classes &#8211; Special warm thanks to Jenn &amp; Sami for coming out to our small town little studio to show us some amazing hip hop grooves! I can&#8217;t wait for the kids to show off what they learned at this upcoming Saturday&#8217;s Recital in The Park! The Digity Boyz are back! All three came back for our Advanced Hip Hop Class with Jenn &amp; Sami and we had a packed studio of dancers from all our squads for both the Beg. &amp; Advanced classes &#8211; IT WAS A SUPER TURN OUT AND THE INSTRUCTION THE STUDENTS GAINED WAS AMAZING!!!! By The way Sami was telling us about a MONSTERS convention that is coming to Overland Park on the weekend of November 21st for Hip Hop Master Classes to be taught by the world famous Tabitha &amp; Napoleon Dumo &#8211; The DYNAMIC DUO CHOREOGRAPHERS from So You Think You can Dance TV Show&#8230;..</p>

WOW! This MONSTERS event is nothing but straight up intensive Hip Hop training! I can&#8217;t wait to get the kids who want to go the information! THIS IS AN EVENT if you can afford it should seriously jump on!!! Plus these are the type of places that offer SCHOLARSHIP $ TO GO TRAIN AT FAMOUS STUDIOS FOR CAMPS / CLINICS IN LOS ANGELES, ORLANDO  AND NEW YORK CITY! It&#8217;s an event that I will be looking into for the kids who want to join in on the fun!</p>

<p>OH YEA &#8211; Just an FYI &#8211; For anyone intersted THE DANCE FACTORY is offering two dance camps this week and next week for just $7.50 a class you can go take any style of dance &#8211; Be sure to check out their website &#8211; I&#8217;ll also leave a printed out information list for you all at the studio &#8211; Maddie &amp; Billy are attending a couple classes during their August 9th week at the Factory so if anyone wants to join them let me know and we can car pool!</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Awesome Awesome News! WE MADE IT &#8211; GOT 10 GIRLS SIGNED UP FOR THE JUNIOR KANSAS CITY CHIEFS CHEER PROGRAM!!! YEA!!!!! Need those deposits by friday so I can send them off to get everyone officially signed up! Come by the studio on Monday 6-7pm or Thursday 6-8pm to get your deposits in! <p>Okay just gotta say I think I&#8217;m loving our new Competition Novelty Dance Routine the Junior Squad has been working on &#8211; It&#8217;s so cute and I can&#8217;t wait to see it in full costume!!! We are looking for Dad&#8217;s that can help with building our Backdrop Cake &#8211; The theme is &#8220;BRIDE &amp; GROOM&#8221; so if you are a great builder let us know &#8211; We will start working on building our Wedding Cake the girls can dance and walk on sometime this fall. Their Jazz Routine is done and now it&#8217;s time for the awful CLEANING &#8211; Yucky! But it will put us way ahead of the game for State this year!</p>
<p>================================== SENIOR DANCE TEAM NEWS ==================</p>
<p>Great practice working on this sassy Jazz Routine &#8211; Loving the style of the routine and can&#8217;t wait to get the Novelty routine up and running. The Seniors this year will be taking their Novelty routine to Nationals this Feb. in Kansas City &#8211; YEP THAT&#8217;S RIGHT BDT IS GOING TO JAMFEST NATIONALS this Feb. in Kansas City &#8211; We will be taking our Senior Novelty Routine; Junior Novelty Routine; Elite Lyrical; Elite Co-Ed Hip Hop and Elite Mini/Mascot Pom &#8211; So if you have been thinking about trying out for our upcoming Elite Hip Hop or Mini/Mascot Pom routines now you got even more of reason to say yes to auditioning for one of our routines we will be taking to Nationals! This year&#8217;s Senior Novelty routine is a throw back to my first High School dance team I coached in San Diego &#8211; It was Old School Madonna Themed &#8211; Comedy routine to &#8220;LUCKY STAR&#8221; &#8211; great routine with lots of really cute and funny bits to it &#8211; All of course in Material Girl style costuming! The Seniors today started working on some of our comedy trick sections and just loved it! So can&#8217;t wait to get the whole squad there to get this routine up and running!</p>
<p>======================= ELITE LYRICAL NEWS ================================</p>
<p>The Crow Chasing the Butterfly &#8211; WOW! What a routine lots of amazing technique &#8211; Lots of Challanges for our elite dancers but what a great number &#8211; much of it is very &#8220;story-telling&#8221; with our two Crows chasing our little butterflies! I love it and can&#8217;t wait to see it once it&#8217;s cleaned for State &amp; Nationals! They are already almost done with learning the routine choreography which again puts us way ahead of schedule for perfecting, polishing and cleaning the technical aspects of the routine so that once they get on the competition floor it will be insanely amazing!!! 5 ALISICONE COMBO WITH A DOUBLE BACK TO ALISICONES!!! AND ALMOST ALL OF THE GIRLS HAVE IT ALREADY!!!! WE&#8217;RE GONNA BE AMAZING THIS YEAR AND I CAN&#8217;T WAIT FOR STATE BABY!!!</p>
<p>====================== Fundraising Updates ==================================</p>
<p>Next up to get ready for JAMFEST &#8211; We already have done such a great job that there will be little left to do to finish with our next events to get JAMFEST fees off by September 1st which is awesome and were rocking and rolling on starting on State &amp; Nationals fee&#8217;s already! IT&#8217;S ONLY JULY AND WE&#8217;RE ALREADY STARTING TO WORK ON STATE AND NATIONALS! THIS IS AWESOME YALL! Great job &#8211; We do have a lot of work ahead of us but I&#8217;m very positive about the events Vikki and I have been planning and special thanks to Heather Spencer for helping set up the Lyndon Car Wash for the Seniors &amp; Osage Car Wash for the Juniors &amp; Seniors in September &#8211; Also coming up is Overbrook Fair &amp; the Wacky Ball Tourny &#8211; All of these will be confirmed this week so I&#8217;ll get back to ya on the official details for all of these coming up!!!</p>

<p>August 7th is our Big Summer Dance Recital &#8211; Please remember to bring your lawn chairs &#8211; This is a very casual showcase of what the girls have been working on all summer &#8211; Most routines are not polished or perfected but we want to give you small glimpse into what they will be working on for this year! By the time the Holiday Recital gets here you will be sure to see these same routines with a whole new look, style and confidence. This year&#8217;s summer recital is more of a family get together to celebrate what the girls have committed to these past few months and to help get them excited about their first upcoming competition at World&#8217;s Of Fun!!!</p>

<p>SIGN UP&#8217;S FOR FALL CLASSES &amp; MASCOT / MINI DANCE TEAMS &#8211; This is it &#8211; Our final countdown to joining one of our BDT All-Star Dance Teams comes up this August 14th &#8211; Sign Up&#8217;s for one of our All-Star Dance Teams will be from 1-4pm at the studio &#8211; This includes all squads Seniors / Juniors / Minis / Mascots &amp; Digity Boyz &#8211; So spread the word &#8211; No one will be able to sign up for one of our competition squads after the 15th of August. Also we will be signing up students for one of our Combo Ballet &#8211; Tap dance classes I&#8217;m teaching this fall for our winter recital. Classes for this will be on Monday&#8217;s and Aerielle will be teaching our Junior KC Chief Cheerleaders &amp; Cheer-Pom Class on Wed&#8217;s. // So be sure to sign up or tell a friend about our upcoming fall season! 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Today I sit here with a sad heart. Recently there have been several girls who have quit the studio and though I am sad to see them leave &#8211; We are staying strong with the girls who have remained and proud to keep dancing. Thank you to those who have been so kind and supportive during this time &#8211; Your kind words and hearts have kept me and Courtney staying strong for the girls who love to dance and have chosen to continue on with another great season at the dance spot.</p>
<p>MOVING FORWARD:</p>
<p>So things are moving forward towards our next events-</p>
<p>COMING UP THIS MONTH:</p>
<p>Practices remain in effect for the Junior &amp; Senior Squad &amp; Cheerleaders!</p>
<p>IN CHEER NEWS: Poms have been ordered and should be here next week &#8211; I&#8217;m just still awaiting the confirmation on the arrival date from the UPS &#8211; The uniforms have also been placed with GTM and due to some extra perks the company is offering the girls some embroidery for the front of the shell which will say BDT and I can&#8217;t wait to rhinestone them up for competition! Looking forward to keep perfecting our show cheer routine! The girls are having a blast and have been working really hard on the new work for competition. Awesome job ladies!!! They will be showing what they have learned at our Summer Recital on Aug.  7th at the Scranton Park &#8211; Should be a blast and can&#8217;t wait to have the parents, families and friends enjoy the performance!</p>
<p>IN JUNIOR DANCE NEWS: Woo!Hoo! Competition Jazz Team Routine is completed! It&#8217;s so awesome and I want to thank Coach Courtney for all her hard work in creating such an amazing routine. We are looking forward to this routine coming out on top as one of the Juniors best routines of the year! Next they have already started on their audorable Novelty routine and should be so cute for competition with their little wedding cake bride &amp; grooms theme! The girls seem to really love that routine!</p>
<p>IN SENIOR DANCE NEWS: Special thanks to Coach Aerielle who came up with such an amazing little jazz routine for our seniors for this season&#8217;s competition. We have decided to add 1 new officer to the squad and are looking for candidates in the next few weeks &#8211; We are also totally stoked about selecting our routines we will be taking to competition &#8211; TEAM JAZZ, TEAM NOVELTY, TEAM POM &amp; TEAM MILITARY &#8211; We will be doing a lyrical routine for the spring recital &#8211; The senior girls are also excited about our planned Dance Competition down in Walt Disney World they start to fundraise for this next month &#8211; I can&#8217;t wait to showcase our new jazz routine and look forward to planning out the theme for Novelty and putting together an amazing military routine for state this year!</p>
<p>IN MINI DANCE NEWS: The minis officers start up practice next week &#8211; We will be putting together their officer routine and it should be one of the best yet! The mini officers have also gained a new leader and we are very excited about moving her up to lead our 2011 Minis this year!</p>
<p>IN MASCOT DANCE NEWS: Caliegh &amp; Autumn start working on their officer routine next week as well and I can&#8217;t wait to put together a cute and sassy number that will be sure to bring the house down!</p>
<p>UPCOMING EVENTS:</p>
<p>- We will be having a parent meeting next sunday during Senior Practice from 2-4pm for those parents who want to help out with our Float for the Overbrook Fair &amp; Parade event coming up in August. We will be planning a theme and a small routine to put together to help and WOW the crowd &#8211; I&#8217;ll have calendars availible for parents for the next few weeks as well of all our upcoming fundraisers and events. The countdown is on &#8211; WORLD&#8217;S OF FUN is just around the corner and we can&#8217;t wait to get into our competition season full swing this year!</p>
<p>-On a personal note: Special thanks to Coach Vikki who has been working hard on setting up all our fundraisers and plans for this year- U ARE SUCH AN AMAZING PERSON &#8211; THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!.</p>

These are not mandatory  and are optional. Either you can choose to participate in the fund  raiser events or you may choose to pay for your entry fee out of pocket  and waive your participation in the fund raiser. I reserved and paid for  my business a booth spot in the Osage City Skating Rink for us to use.</span></address>

Sunday &#8211; JULY 4th -  I will be posting the official work  schedule on my blog for next week&#8217;s events. I am extending the deadline  for competition entry fee&#8217;s for Worlds&#8217; of Fun to be in by July 11th  (Sunday) &#8211; That way girls who need to still fund raise for Worlds of Fun  have one last shot. All funds will need to be turned in no later then  Sunday July 11th &#8211; I&#8217;m sending out our entry fees on July 12th so if you  didn&#8217;t get your entry in before the 11th you will not be eligible to  attend WOF events on September 18th. Also cheer uniforms will be ordered  July 16th &#8211; Your fee&#8217;s will be due no later than the 15th of July! If  you do not have your fees in then you will  not be able to finish out the season with the cheerleaders. I&#8217;m hopeful  some sizes will be in for our July 11th practice so we can be sure to  order the right sizes. I will confirm with you later this weekend once I  confirm this with GTM.<br />

<p>This past weekend we had a great time! Master&#8217;s Class with Sarah and Sami from JK Choreography were awesome! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' />  The girls who signed up and took the classes did a great job and the routine is so cute can&#8217;t wait to show it off at the recital which is only now 4 weeks away!!! I&#8217;ll be posting up the video from the class soon on our website so check back later this week!</p>

<p>FRIDAY &#8211; Teen Dance Party</p>
<p>8pm &#8211; 11pm at the studio &#8211; Spread the word &#8211; TEEN DANCE PARTY! We&#8217;ll have a new sound system for the dance so it should be a blast! Remember dancers get in for free &#8211; so bring a new friend with you! Dancers who want to help with concession stand or decorating be at the studio around 6:30pm to help me with set up!</p>
<p>SATURDAY &#8211; Scranton Parade</p>
<p><a href="http://bdtdanceallstars.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/rodeo-days-7.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-345" title="rodeo days 7" src="http://bdtdanceallstars.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/rodeo-days-7.jpg?w=150&#038;h=112" alt="" width="150" height="112" /></a> Dancers need to wear Blue Jean Shorts, White Tank Tops, Country Tops we tie in the middle hair styles either two ponytails or braids &#8211; Cheerleaders wear Team T-Shirt, Black Shorts hair in pony tails &#8211; We will be meeting at the studio at 9am &#8211; We have to be at the line-up by 9:45am &#8211; So we will be reviewing the routine and put the finishing touches on our makeup for the parade. Don&#8217;t forget white tennis shoes!!! Parade starts at 10am.  Should be a blast that day!</p>
<p>SUNDAY &#8211; No practice &#8211; It&#8217;s the 4th Enjoy the day off!</p>
<p>MONDAY &#8211; No dance class &#8211; It&#8217;s my Birthday so enjoy the day off!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Another great week at the studio &#8211; Thursday night technique classes got some special attention from Coach Aerielle on new styles of leaps and Coach Vikki continues her work with cleaning up level I dancers stretching &amp; basic turns.</p>
<p>Lumberjack performance was great and the cheerleaders &amp; dancers demonstrated some of their technique skills as well as a cheer and our parade dance routine! Fundraising done by the parents went well and raised $108 dollars to share for competition entry fees for those who worked the event! Way to go BDT Parents!! It was a hot and muggy day but we had a great day!</p>
<p>Sunday was a nice day off to celebrate with our dad&#8217;s &#8211; HAPPY FATHER&#8217;S DAY to our BDT Dads! We luv ya~!</p>
<p>Now it&#8217;s time to get ready for next events coming up!!! -</p>
<p>JUNE 26th is our Master&#8217;s Dance Class</p>
<p>1-2:30 for Class I</p>
<p>2:30-4pm for Class II</p>
<p>check your emails &amp; facebook messages to find out where your class your enrolled in &#8211; Remember to bring $20 cash with you to pay our guest instructors for that day. We will be performing the routines the dancers learn in these classes at the Summer Recital in the Park on August 7th!</p>
<p>Sunday June 27th is team practices:</p>
<p>Noon &#8211; 2pm Junior Dance Team</p>
<p>2-4pm Senior Dance Team</p>
<p>4-6pm Cheerleaders</p>
<p>and auditions for the Elite Lyrical Competition routine will be held at 5pm!</p>
<p>Fundraiser&#8217;s are planned for the dance team competition uniforms for the 2011 season:</p>
<p>JULY 2nd &#8211; TEEN DANCE PARTY from 8-11pm &#8211; Parents are welcome to help out and senior dancers that want to help with the concession stand should arrive around 7pm!</p>
<p>JULY 3rd &#8211; BREAKFAST FEED from 6am-9am &#8211; Anyone who wants to help with set-up and serving food should be there around 5am and those who would be willing to help with breakdown will be done 9:30am so we can be at the Parade Line up by 9:45am</p>
<p>OUR NEXT PERFORMANCE is for the Scranton City In the Park Parade JULY 3rd &#8211; 10am</p>
<p>Dancers wear country shirts, white tank tops, blue jean shorts &#8211; You will have your shimmer hoops to perform with and cheerleaders poms are hopefully going to be in by then to use if not we will use our sparkle poms we still have. Cheerleaders should wear their team t-shirts, black shorts &amp; are welcome to put some cute pink bows in their hair for the parade. Please remember to wear make-up / hair back in ponytails &#8211; NO HAIR IN FACES!!! Dancers will have cowboy hats (hopefully if they come in! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> ) so make sure the ponytails are low back pony tails! Wear your sneakers! Also wear some glitter in your hair and on your body if you want to add some glitter touches!! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' />  I&#8217;ll bring a couple cans of glitter hair spray to share as well. Biggest thing to remember for performances &#8211; WEAR YOUR LIPSTICK! Plain lips make you looked washed out! AND SINCE THIS IS OUR STUDIO HOMETOWN PERFORMANCE I want us to look your best and really make Scranton proud!</p>
<p>Anyone who wants to use the studio for a fundraiser after the performance are welcome to it &#8211; I know a couple dancers that are planning to set up a lemonade stand at the park following the parade and we have permission to set up any type of fundraising table all day until the fireworks that night at the park. Should be a huge turn-out as it always has been so this would be a great day to set something up for those who still need to raise competition entry fee funds!!! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p>SATURDAY PERFORMANCE &#8211; @ Burlingame Lumberjack Day</p>
<p>arrive at the Burlingame Library at 9am &#8211; Wear your BDT Team Shirts for Cheerleaders &amp; Black Shorts / Dancers wear your Black Tank Tops or Leotards, Black Shorts &amp; bring your jazz shoes with you. Everyone remember hair slicked back in low pony tails &#8211; Cheerleaders can do high pony&#8217;s. Make-up Please! Look cute!!! We will be doing our Parade routine stationary for the crowd. There will be fundraising following the performance for those who want to sign up please contact Katie Heyne or Kandice Hamner for info on what it is and how you can sign up!</p>

<p>Starting off &#8211; A vote was taken by the BDT Parent Board on our decisions for Nationals and they have decided to plan our Nationals trips to every other year giving more time to fundraise for the trips. So for this competition season our dance teams will participate in the following:</p>
<p>WORLDS OF FUN</p>
<p>JAMFEST (in Topeka)</p>
<p>STATE SPECTACULAR</p>
<p>Then for those dancers who wish to continue to build up their accounts we will be going to Nationals in 2012 &#8211; the cost will be around $530 per dancer just for nationals which includes (2) buses for families &amp; dancers / hotel accomidations for families &amp; dancers / special dinner night out &amp; buffet breakfast for families &amp; dancers / free breakfast each morning for both / entry fee for dancers. So parents will just need to bring extra spending money and their spectator fee&#8217;s to get into the competition. This event will be especially highlighted with a &#8220;SURPRISE&#8221; performance / practice on Thursday night. The trip has been set for 2012 so fundraising for this trip can begin after all WOF, JAMFEST &amp; STATE fees have been paid in full. !!!</p>
<p>Should be an amazing season this year and next!!!</p>

These fees will contribute towards the needs of our dancers competition costumes, studio necessities, banquet funds and future special guest dance master class instructors, or camps, expansion of the studio &#8211; basically anything that will benefit the dancers with expansion and growth of the studio!</p>

<p>It&#8217;s been officially noted that our teams are in COMPETITION SEASON / MODE &#8211; with state being our big event of the year &#8211; we have 6 months to kick it in gear to get all routines ready by the Christmas recital. Because of this some of our elite routines will begin auditions sooner then earlier anticipated.</p>
<p>ADVANCED ELITE LYRICAL ENSEMBLE &#8211; &#8220;The Crow &amp; The Butterfly&#8221;</p>
<p>Auditions for all Veteran advanced level dancers for the 2011 Minis &#8211; Senior Squads will have auditions on</p>

<p>Practices for elite Lyrical ensemble will begin this summer following tryouts and Coach Courtney will hand out schedules to those who make the audition.</p>

<p>I want to extend my warmest welcomes to our latest new members to the dance teams for 2011! SO VERY EXCITED TO INTRODUCE: Rachel &amp; Caitlin (2 new junior dancers) &amp; Amber &amp; Caitlin Padget (2 new senior dancers) We are so stoked about you choosing to join us in what without a doubt will be our best season to come! so that now puts our squad numbers too: 13 JUNIOR DANCERS &amp; 14 SENIOR DANCERS &#8211; Reminder to everyone ROOKIE SIGN-UP&#8217;S are still open until August 14th so if you know of any friends who would like to join us for a day of practice be sure to bring them with you to our next team practices on Sunday (Junior / Senior squads only) I will have to close the squad sizes to no more then 18 due to studio spacing &#8211; so as of right now Senior Squad only has 4 spaces left &amp; juniors have 5 spots left. Once these are full we will not be adding any new members until the studio has been expanded. By the way it looks pretty amazing to have such talented Rookies on our squads and to see the routines come together with such huge teams!!! I LOVE IT!!!!</p>
<p>veterans &#8211; please be sure to remember what it was like being a rookie and do your best to be a good ambassador to your newest members &#8211; Be friendly, helpful and encouraging!!! ANY NEGATIVITY  could potentially freak out new rookies &#8211; I expect the utmost performance from all vets at practice so the rookies will have great examples to follow and work towards!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I know it seems so hard to believe but yes it is true since our teams only practice 1 day a week &#8211; It gives us actually on 14 sunday practices give or take a day or two due to summer holidays until we hit our first competition for the 2011 season. Going to World&#8217;s of Fun in September still seems so far away at this point but knowing how many more team practices we have left &#8211; it actually makes that time seem so much shorter!!!</p>
<p>Once again I&#8217;ll be posting up our usual COUNTDOWN to COMPETITION on our board at the studio so the girls can visually see how important practices are.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s so hard to get the girls motivated during the summer &#8211; specially our Senior Squad &#8211; They are so busy with summer jobs, summer softball and other activities like their school&#8217;s cheerleading or other sports camps &amp; summer practices &#8211; It really can be so much that the girls feel burnt out and in the past since our first dance competitions weren&#8217;t until January that tended to give dance practice the last priority on the totem pole. This year however our first competition is not that far away &#8211; Giving us a new incentive to really take summer practices serious and too focus on the task that is truly just around the corner! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>So yesterday was our 1st official team practices for the new season &#8211; and I couldn&#8217;t have been more excited!</p>
<p>First up for the Junior &amp; Senior Dance team they were welcomed by a guest dance instructor Mandy Walton-White came and helped with stretching &amp; technique / across the floor progressions / leaps &#8211; Turns. What makes Mandy such a special guest? For us in the dance circuit her background &amp; experience makes her a true &#8220;GEM&#8221; to the dance teams &#8211; She has danced for over 10 years with topeka&#8217;s &#8220;Dance Factory&#8221; on their competition teams &#8211; She has earned a scholarship with the world famous &#8220;Tremaine Dance&#8221; located in Los Angeles. Had the opportunity to dance with Wade Robinson, Mia Micheals and many other famous choreographers &#8211; For those who don&#8217;t know these dance stars &#8211; Watch &#8220;So You Think You Can Dance&#8221; &#8211; Wade &amp; Mia have both graced the show as judges &amp; choreographers of some of the best loved emmy award winning dance numbers viewed on one of my favorite shows on TV.</p>
<p>She really helped the girls focus on things that sometimes I let slide due to the demands of learning those competition routines &#8211; The focus was on good posture, hand and arm placements, pointing our toes and spotting &#8211; She also pushed the girls in some physical training in push-up&#8217;s and crunches that will help build our ladies &#8220;Core&#8221; or a dancers center &#8211; Things that will be adding to our daily regieme from now on.</p>
<p>The other great thing about our first practice back for 2011 was the committment to the new rules &#8211; GREAT JOB LADIES!!! They remembered the discipline of wearing their required practice uniforms: For Dancers it&#8217;s Black Leotards or Black Tank Tops / Black Shorts &#8211; Hair pulled up in ponytail or bun &#8211; For our Cheerleaders it was our Team T-Shirt, black shorts &amp; tennis shoes &#8211; Hair also pulled up off of our faces. The reason for the new practice uniforms is simply this &#8211; For 1 it&#8217;s good for &#8220;mentally preparing the team to look, feel and start focusing like a team&#8221; &#8211; for 2 it provides discipline, responsibility and for our cheerleaders even saftey reasons &#8211; Now that we use the lot across the street for our cheer practices &#8211; it helps to keep our girls in line with my &#8220;Insurance regulations&#8221; &#8211; We look like a team and not just some random kids flipping around outside in a vacant lot &#8211; We look like we have a purpose.</p>
<p>I will be a little more lax this summer about uniform requirements for practices and a few slip up&#8217;s or reminders for just a few &#8211; but after August &#8211; there will be consequences for those who don&#8217;t learn the discipline to remember their practice uniform &#8211; Why? For some this may seem harsh &#8211; Here is the coaches reasoning and reality of why I&#8217;m making this a new rule:</p>
<p>WE HAVE ALOT OF FORGETFUL LITTLE LADIES &#8211; &#8220;Oh I forgot my shoes&#8221; or &#8220;Oops I forgot my Tights&#8221; or &#8220;Shoot, I didn&#8217;t remember to bring my Shirt&#8221; &#8211; these are all things I have heard at crucial performance moments and yes even at competition!!!! I have way too many girls now to not teach them discipline in remembering dance = equals SHOES-TIGHTS-HAIR PULLED UP etc., or for our cheerleaders = equals TENNIS SHOES, TEAM UNITY, (soon it will be our poms once those get in) etc.,</p>
<p>So to help the girls not be forgetful ninnies &#8211; I&#8217;ve allowed the girls to bring in their own plastic boxes (drawers) to keep at the studio &#8211; That way their shoes, and whatever else practice attire they are in need of will be there for them every practice &#8211; So please if you have not yet gotten their boxes please do so! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' />  You can pick them up at walmart or at dollar general for about 8 bucks &#8211; Also PUT THEIR NAMES ON EVERYTHING! We have too many disapearences of items and check your child&#8217;s boxes to make sure someones other then your own child&#8217;s isn&#8217;t in your possesion by mistake &#8211; We want to help keep the potential getting lost or stolen items to a bare minimum this year! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Okay so enough preaching about the practice attire- you get the idea&#8230;..</p>
<p>Now onto another great thing about our 1st practice out of the way &#8211; The turn out!!! YEA!!! It was awesome!!! Almost every squad had all their members &#8211; and that is quite rare for us! That shows me that this year&#8217;s teams are hungry for their dance or cheer programs and love coming! YEA!!!! It&#8217;s all about having the girls enjoy what they are working hard for and I gotta say all three squads worked extremely hard yesterday!!! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>A lot was accomplished ! For the Cheerleaders &amp; The Junior Squad much more was completed because for some reason our senior dance team can&#8217;t seem to stop with the CHATTER!!! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' />  I know it&#8217;s cuz most of these girls have been with me much longer and are more comfortable and relaxed but we as you can see don&#8217;t have much time left on our practice table &#8211; so Less talking means more dancing / cheering which means better chances at competition! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' />  So I&#8217;m begging our seniors &#8211; Let&#8217;s dance and then at the end of a few practices this summer we will plan some kind of activity to do that will be fun but that&#8217;s only if we get our work done! Also the Cheerleaders &amp; Junior Dancers will end up having some special treats &#8211; Like yesterday our cheer squad worked so hard we ended practice 10 minutes early! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>So what about the girls who are gone on vacation or missing practices so much due to other school committments? How is that going to effect our team?</p>
<p>Well honestly &#8211; it&#8217;s gonna hurt / When members miss practice it leaves a Hole &#8211; Meaning it&#8217;s hard for our dancers to find their spots to remember to leave a hole &#8211; for cheerleaders it will make it hard to do certain Stunts when there might be a flyer missing or a base. That&#8217;s why we truly beg for our Summer teams to do their best to just make it 1 day a week for practice! Also that&#8217;s why we will strictly enforce the 3 NO SHOWS to practice in a row &#8211; your off the team &#8211; What does NO SHOW mean? If I don&#8217;t get a call, text, email or face book message letting me know that they are having to miss a practice and just don&#8217;t show up &#8211; that&#8217;s considered Un-Exscused &#8211; Specially if I find out that the dancers were hanging around town on main street or at the pool instead of at practice &#8211; DOES NOT LOOK GOOD! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' />  To be on the dance team or cheerleading squad is a privilage &#8211; and for your parents it&#8217;s a waste of their money if you don&#8217;t do what they are paying for &#8211; So again if you miss because of vacations or work &#8211; that&#8217;s understandable &#8211; but do your best to be there!!! It can hurt everyone when your not!!! Not just you!</p>
<p>However &#8211; for those girls that have missed summer practices because of vacations or work &#8211; please make your best effort to make up the work that you missed by learning the routine at extra practices with me on Monday nights around 7pm or on Thursday nights at 8pm &#8211; for those on the junior squad be there on Monday nights at 5pm that might have missed a sunday practice so you can learn your work from one of your officers or Courtney.</p>
<p>Okay so now onto our next great moment about our team practices -</p>
<p>GREAT JOB! The routines for the dance teams look great! I&#8217;m so excited about the new competition routines and the girls are all picking up the choreography well and quite faster then anticipated! that&#8217;s gonna be great for us!!! For the cheerleaders &#8211; we will begin some choreography soon and getting the basics down is essential for competition and we did alot yesterday with our jumps review, motions work and tumbling and some stunting &#8211; We are gonna have a great season!!!</p>
<p>Finally on personal note &#8211; Thanks parents for hanging outside the studio during practices &#8211; it helps so much to have the girls stay focused on what we need them to do without any potential distractions -</p>

<p>PARENT&#8217;S MEETING has been changed to this upcoming Friday June 11th at 7pm for those interested in finding out about potential fundraising opportunities &#8211; Be sure to make it so you can figure out ways to help reduce your expenses for competition entry fees! <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
